The BEEAs, which took place in October, saw the COMET HD wheel shortlisted alongside innovations from some of the biggest names in manufacturing technology, including JCB and Jaguar Land Rover.

The awards aim to demonstrate and promote the quality of engineering design within the UK and provide a benchmark of excellence from which the industry can learn and from which it can build.

The Innovation Awards, the IET’s annual prestigious awards ceremony, celebrate the very best innovations from both industry and academia, sharing landmark work and developments taking place across many important areas of science, engineering and technology. In a ceremony hosted by adventurer and TV presenter Rob Bell, the shortlisted entries were showcased to all attendees. The awards, which took place in mid-November, attracted a large number of big-name entries, with finalists in the Manufacturing Technology category including Airbus in the UK and Laing O’Rourke, as well as Wheelabrator.
