Foundry Castings
Wheelabrator produces an extensive range of blast machines for the Foundry industry. Machines can be "in-line" to treat the castings as they pass through your production processes in a continuous fashion, or "batch" to treat castings in batch quantities.
The Wheelabrator range of shot blast machines for foundries includes four main machine systems (batch, hanger, through-feed, manipulator/robot) which meet all the surface preparation requirements of the modern foundry.
Forged Parts
Blast cleaning is employed to remove scale from forged parts. Wheelabrator has vast experience in such applications and can supply a number of well proven shot blast machines which are designed to help you to lower your cost per part produced whilst delivering productivity and quality gains.
Machine Selection
The right machine for your process will depend upon the complexity of your cast or forged parts, your production method, part size, number, preferred handling method and product flow.
Not every machine type can be represented here, many applications require a custom-designed solution. These pages are intended to display the typical applications and equipment solutions. To talk to us about what solution is right for your application, please contact us.
Tumbleproof Workpieces
- Tumblast (tumble blast) and drum type blast machines are available in a multitude of sizes, and with variable loading and unloading principles.
- Continuous Tumblasts (CT and DT machines) achieve a more cost-effective and efficient process when large numbers of parts need to be blasted throughout the shift. Production processes become more automated and less space is used.

DT Through-feed Rocker Barrel Machine
The principle using drum-type machines is a leading technology today. The polygon shaped trough rocks back and forth to gently tumble the workpieces. Continuous shot blast machines automate production sequences and improve the work environment.
For Thin-Walled And/Or Delicate Workpieces
- Table (or turntable) machines are ideal for small to medium sized loads.
- Mesh belt machines
- Robot gripper machines

Robot Gripper
Wheelabrator Robot Gripper machines are ideal for the removal of fire cracks, for shot peening and the blasting of filigree parts.
High Performance Processing of Complex Parts
e.g. crankcases, cylinder heads, gear housings
- Manipulator-type and Robot gripper blast machines can clean interior areas without accumulation of abrasive. Single or pairs of components can be desanded, decored and/or peened.

DS and DV Manipulator Systems
These systems meet the highest production demands and are renowned for their excellent blast cleaning performance for components of different shapes and sizes. These systems deliver outstanding performance due to their high process capacity and excellent cleaning efficiency.
For Parts Susceptible To Impact Damage
- Hanger-type machines are ideal for parts that can not be tumbled, and offer the added advantage that batches can be prepared or unloaded whilst one batch is being processed.
- Mesh belt machines
- Continuous hanger-type machines are also available for in-line production processes.
- Continuous conveyor machines, wire mesh blast machines and inclined belt machines allow smooth and shockless continuous blast cleaning for shock and vibration sensitive parts
e.g. brake drums, brake disks, wheel rims, etc.
